5 Easy Ways to Declutter Your Room

5 Easy Ways to Declutter Your Room

Clutter is one of the most common problems for an apartment bedroom, especially if it doesn’t have built-in shelving or large closets. Clutter can also make the space feel chaotic and disorganized, which can lead to a more stressful environment. This is exactly the opposite of what you want your home to be, especially when it’s in your bedroom. You want that space to be as relaxing of a place as possible. Try these five ways to declutter your bedroom. They are fun and creative, and they don’t cost much:

1. Use Baskets for Storage

You may feel stumped by stuff that needs storage when you don’t have any. Don’t be! Go to the baskets, boxes and bags! They can hold everything from shoes to sheets to crafting supplies, and they don’t just have to go on the floor or in the closet. Baskets can go anywhere they fit; on top of a bookcase, under your bed, or even hanging from the ceiling. Think about where there is unused space and find a way to put a basket or box there! declutter-shelving

2. Put up Portable Shelving

Portable shelving works for books, equipment, laptops and anything else that would fit well on a shelf, and the beauty of portable shelving is the abundance of flexible options. If an available place to stick a shelf happens to be eight inches wide, there’s a portable shelf for that! Plus, you don’t have to leave the shelves when you move. They can be reused in a different space, and lots of portable shelving is designed to be expanded with matching components.

3. Store or Get Rid of Unused Items

Minimalistic living is a trend of our age. Two popular methods are Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, which urges throwing away — permanently — anything that doesn’t bring you joy. Another is Project 333, which advises choosing 33 items of clothing to wear for three months. You can throw away the rest, but you can also store it. If you don’t want to permanently part with your clothing, this is a great way to explore more with less. Store your winter coat and sweaters in the summer and bring them back in the fall. Keep what you’re not using in an inexpensive storage facility or, if you’re lucky, in your parents’ basement.

4. Pick Beautiful Objects as Decoration

One of the central ways to declutter is to rid your room of the extra stuff that just looks messy hanging around. Usually, these items tend to hang out on the floor and other flat places. Once your floor and surfaces are clear, make all the elements in your room come together harmoniously by choosing just one or two lovely objects that will be the focus of attention. One of the principles of Feng Shui, the art of organizing a room so that it has good energy, is to focus on a beautiful thing you see as you walk in the door. It sets the tone for the energy of the room. Will that be a burnt orange vase or a dramatic photograph? You decide.

5. Upcycle Memorabilia

How do you deal with things you want to keep, like sepia photographs of great-grandma or the stuffed bear you won at the fair? They’re too precious to throw away, but they’re also big clutter candidates. The solution? Simple. Make them into art by upcycling. Make memorabilia into art on your walls. How about surrounding great-grandma with selfies of all your friends and family? New meets old. She’d appreciate it. Maybe the bear perches on top of the basket that holds your extra towels. After all, every room needs a guardian bear.   [tweetthis]In with 2017 and out with the mess with these 5 easy decluttering tips for your space. #organization [/tweetthis]   Decluttering can be creative and easy following these five steps.
