Utilizing Under-the-Bed Storage

Utilizing Under-the-Bed Storage

I always spend the first part of the new year cleaning and organizing my home. There is not much room in an apartment, so at times you have to get creative with storage solutions. Utilizing your under-the-bed storage space is one way to put things away and out of sight. My favorites are containers that are specifically made for under the bed and come with wheels attached. These are by far the easiest option for under-the-bed storage, but definitely not required. under the bed storage bins Among the many things you can store under your bed, here are a few ideas to get you started:
  • Off-season clothes and shoes
  • Old photos or papers that are not often needed
  • Holiday décor
  • Toys, books and games in a child’s room
  • Blankets and other linens
  • Storage of bulk purchases (paper towels, toilet paper, etc.)
  • Suitcases
  • Party supplies and serving ware
  • Just about anything you don’t need access to daily!

Don’t forget to utilize the storage space INSIDE that suitcase under the bed as well. Also, if you label your containers, you will have more success in keeping everything orderly through the year. Start by sorting your items and putting them in labeled containers. Then make sure everything fits nice and neat under your bed. There is nothing worse than something that won’t actually fit all the way under the bed! under the bed storage labeled containers If you use the clear plastic containers like I show here, you will want to use a bed skirt or something similar to hide your storage. Another option is to use wood containers or baskets so the storage will look gorgeous as well. Be sure to think about this before purchasing your containers. If you have a bed skirt, no one will ever be the wiser about your under-the-bed storage, and you have just gained a ton of storage space! Looking for even more space? They also make bed risers so you can gain a few additional inches of space under the bed. Be sure to look for these in stores to maximize your under-the-bed storage. under the bed storage bed skirt What is your favorite way to utilize the storage under your bed?
