You finally have the keys to your very first apartment; the excitement is overwhelming and you can’t wait to get settled in. But this is only the very beginning. You’ve still got a long way to decorate your apartment in your style and start this new chapter in your life! So I’ve rounded up a few ideas to help you get your new place well on its way to looking awesome.
Hang Real Curtains
Most apartments come standard with mini blinds, which in all honesty feel a bit sterile. One of the easiest ways to make an empty room feel cozy is by adding curtains. Luckily, most apartments are painted a neutral color, so you will likely have your pick of any color! If you don’t like to commit to specific colors or if you are on a tight budget, you can always hang flat, twin-sized sheets or drop cloths with curtain clips.
Add Area Rugs
Adding texture to rooms in your new apartment will really make it feel like everything is pulling together. After you get your curtains on the wall, it’s time to move to the floor. I always say start with the big things first because you will be amazed at what you can find for the little decorations in your very own stuff, but we will talk about that further down in the list!
Area rugs pull all the furniture together and create places in your home where you will gather for movies, congregate for meals and retreat to for sleep.
Change the Hardware
While you may be renting and unable to make any permanent changes to your new place, don’t let that restrict you from doing some of the things that really impact a space. Changing out the hardware in kitchens and bathrooms can completely transform a space. It can take you from traditional to modern or modern to rustic, whichever suits you best!
Temporary Backsplash
Removeable vinyl is a cheap and effective way to make a big change to your kitchen. Plain walls behind your new cabinets are not exactly jaw-dropping, but with a few vinyl applications, you can alter the entire look of your kitchen!

Get creative and use what you already have. You might need to pull out a few crafting tools, but there are so many ways to use what you already have. You can start by displaying your coffee cups on the wall rather than in your cabinet; it helps save on storage space and decorates your wall.
