Home Décor for the Happy Traveler

Home Décor for the Happy Traveler

Let’s chat about travel! The hubs and I love to travel. How about you? If and when you travel enough, you start to incorporate your travels into your home décor. Sometimes that can present its challenges because some ‘souvenirs’ just don’t make the cut per se. So I thought it might be fun to share how I’ve incorporated our travels into our home so it fits within our style and allows for memories to linger year-round. Since getting married, we’ve been to Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, Bermuda, etc. I’ve been able to use (or make) décor from some and/or all of these destinations to tell the story of our travels in our home. Let’s start with the beach.

Start a sand collection and display it in a shadow box or vignette. I’m late getting started at this tradition, but I love it so much. I’ve collected a couple of small jars (St. Maarten and Bermuda) and placed them in a large shadow box (along with other travel treasures and fond pieces — see below). As your collection grows, be sure to label the jars.

And one year we purchased a bowl made from palm tree leaves from a beach vendor. I keep it on our stove in the kitchen. Perfectly inconspicuous! How about artwork? You could easily pick up a colorful piece, such as these bright paintings that were being sold at a small shop in Burano, Italy.

Or if you enjoy photography, snap a few photos of historic spots or scenery that takes your breath away and use them to create a travel-themed gallery wall. You can easily incorporate pictures from multiple trips, printables, quotes, etc.

Maybe souvenirs and photography aren’t your thing. No worries! Make your own travel décor. Last year I decided to upcycle an oversized canvas in our living room. I just didn’t know what the new artwork should be. Decisions, decisions. Then it hit me! Use it to paint some of our travel destinations on! Inexpensive and oh so special!

Buy plants that resemble plants from a favorite destination. Maybe colorful fabrics, throw pillows or lanterns will reflect your love for travel. Whatever it may be, have fun in finding out how easy it can be to incorporate into your home. What home décor ideas do you have for the happy traveler?
