I wanted to start with the entry way, the first thing that not only we see everyday, but also our neighbors and guests. I love seeing an inviting entry way or balcony during the holidays, and there are so many options to do it, without dipping into your holiday funds or taking up a ton of space that most don’t have.
Wreaths are a great option, for not only doors, but windows, railings, mirrors, even staircases. Although they can get costly and bulky, I put a super easy one together that you can make during college game day that will make a big impact on any space. It cost less than $20 to make and doesn’t require a door hanger or damage my door when I hung it.
There are tons of options for doing this. I wanted to knock it out quickly, so I grabbed a bundle of sticks at my local craft store. You can totally gather several from your area or purchase some.
Materials:
Chipboard Circle
Large Bundle of Sticks
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Large Bow
Thumb Tack
Yarn
Cup (as a guide for the center)
1. On a flat surface, lay your chipboard down and center your cup in the middle.
2. Keeping the cup centered, glue your sticks down to the chipboard, leaving gaps as you go. You mainly want to keep a center circle in the middle at first.
3. Glue around the entire chipboard.
4. While glue is drying, measure the width of the space that you want the wreath. Trim down the sticks as needed, remembering to measure the entire wreath, not just the width of one side. I had to cut down quite a bit.
5. Remove the cup and go back to fill in with remaining sticks/the leftovers of what you cut down, making sure to cover chipboard and layering as heavily as wanted.
6. Using a thumbtack, push in place on the top of your door/window area, making sure the tack is centered.
7. Cut a piece of yarn to the length desired.
8. Run yarn through the center of the wreath and tie, trimming where necessary.
9. Attach your bow to the sticks either by gluing or using a twist tie.
And voila! You have yourself an eye catching holiday wreath!
There are so many options for this! You can spray paint your final project, a solid white or gold would be gorgeous! And change it up by switching out the bow for garland, mistletoe or a winter print.
