The building is charming - it had wood floors throughout, though some of the apartments have wood laminate instead of the original, fire escapes with plants and big windows. I've looked at open one bedrooms, but live in a studio. There's not a huge difference between the two, but both have large living areas and walk in closets. But, it is an old building and that comes with a few flaws. Some rooms have updated appliances; I have a new refrigerator, but an old stove that looks like it's from the… seventies and is very small (not that my kitchen could withstand anything larger). There are cockroaches, that's a fact of life in this part of town, but the building managers are really responsive and do their best to maintain the building. Most of the tenants are young adults/professionals with a few new families. Most of the neighboring apartment buildings house primarily elderly people. For the most part, the block is quiet. The location is amazing; you're a short walk (10 minutes) from the downtown Vermont and Hillhurst Los Feliz area, plenty of shops, places to eat and entertainment options, as well as Thai Town. You're also smack dab in the middle of the Sunset/Vermont metro station and the Hollywood/Western metro station. Both are about a 10 minute walk away. The apartment is in the middle of Little Armenia. So, while the availability of ponchiks and lamajuns is awesome, there are some gangsters rolling around at night. The apartment building is also right across the street from a private Armenian school that's elementary through high school I believe. They have a loading zone in the mornings which contributes to very limited parking in the evenings, even if you want to wake up at 6 to move your car.
