Westlake Canyon

I have lived at Westlake Canyon Apartments and wanted to share my experience for anyone considering living here.

The location is convenient, and the on-site manager and assistant manager have always been courteous and professional when I've spoken with them. Unfortunately, my experience has been overshadowed by an ongoing smoke and vaping issue that has not been resolved.

Since December, smoke and fumes have repeatedly entered my apartment through the vents and common areas, especially during... the early morning hours and after 5:00 p.m. There have been days when the odor was so strong that I couldn't work in my home office. I have also experienced persistent coughing and burning eyes when the fumes are present.

The problem has become so severe that I have covered the vents inside my apartment with plastic in an attempt to reduce the smoke entering my home. My next-door neighbor has also placed plastic over a window to help keep the fumes out. In addition, six other neighbors have told me they have noticed the smoke or odor as well, so this does not appear to be an isolated issue.

I have submitted five written complaints to management since December. While the staff has always been respectful, the problem continues without a resolution. I understand that managing a community of more than 670 apartment homes is a significant responsibility, but I believe this issue requires additional involvement from corporate management and stronger enforcement of the community's no-smoking and no-vaping policy.

My lease states that smoking, vaping, and cigar use are prohibited in or around the apartment buildings. I hope management will remind all residents of these rules and take appropriate action when violations occur.

I truly wish I could give this community a higher rating because it has many positive qualities. However, every resident deserves to enjoy a healthy, smoke-free home. Until this issue is addressed, I cannot recommend Westlake Canyon Apartments to prospective renters. Read More

This property is beautiful and well maintained in a great area with beautiful hiking trails nearby. The apartments and community are very quiet. Charles is the property manager here and provides exceptional service and help from touring to leasing to move in date. He is prompt in his responses and incredibly pleasant to work with. This was by far one of the most pleasant moving experiences I’ve ever had, and it was a big move across the country too. Highly recommend this apartment complex.

Westlake Canyon Apartments is a nice, quiet place to live in Thousand Oaks. Prices are high but they are much higher elsewhere and the management team is the professional, responsive friendly. If ever any repairs are needed they are done quickly and well. Thank You!

Westlake Canyon Apartments is a great place to live, with excellent management and great maintenance and support staff. It's quiet and tenants are respectful. Great area to live with nature and shopping seconds to minutes away.
