Metro 417

I am a current resident of Metro 417. I have lived here since 2020. I love living in downtown and wish I didn’t have to give Metro such a low grade. Brookfield, who owns the building, has totally mismanaged it. They have taken away 24-hour concierge, failed to address major issues like elevator replacement (there is usually only 1 working elevator), removed plants from the whole building, removed the coffee service in the lobby, recently fired longtime cleaning and concierge staff, and made the... building less welcoming, safe, and hospitable for residents. My husband had his bike stolen and was not notified by management that there had been a break-in in the bike room, people who don’t live in the building have gotten into the building and displayed concerning behaviors and showed sign of drug use, and recently someone living on the street died in the driveway for one of the parking garages. I understand that living downtown has its own risks but Brookfield has made the situation worse because of its lack of clear communication and failure to address the concerns of tenants. Additionally Brookfield has not taken proper care of this historic building by drilling into the marble in the lobby and using aggressive cleaners on the marble floors. I had a friend interested in moving into the building but I told her not to because of these issues. I am very sad about these changes at Metro and hope that Brookfield will do something to resolve them. If you are considering moving into Metro 417, I would recommend you look elsewhere. Lee mas

I moved here in April 2019 when it had just been bought by Brookfield Properties. I loved the location, the history, the quiet, the gorgeous lobby, and the friendly staff.

In the past 5 years, with the bankruptcy of Brookfield and their attempts to make the building more profitable, the tenants have seen serious reductions in service. We no longer have a 24 hour/day concierge. Presumably they did just re-hire a security guard, but I've never seen them. And they did this instead of the concierge... . When I moved in, we had both.

They just moved to two bills a month with billing fees for both services; and the electrical bills are consistently wrong but the meters are broken and they're just guessing at who owes what.

Our windows (one of the best things about the building) were last cleaned in 2022 and it's not in the budget to clean them in 2024, because that money is being spent instead to paint over the lead paint in the stairwells, which is the buildings obligation and shouldn't be an either/or.

They're cutting back on cleaning and maintenance. And we're down to only two elevators, because the third broke in 2019 and will cost $1M to fix so they won't do it.

And with all of this, they keep increasing the rent.

There are lots of other building downtown, so if you're looking, I'd run away from Metro 417 until it gets bought by a better management company. Lee mas

Building is in a class by itself. Easily the most elegant in town.

I was truly fortunate to find this property in 2020. I can't believe I live some place as beautiful as it is here. Staff and residents are so kind. I live thousands of miles from family but I never feel alone. Even holidays when I'm here alone it doesn't feel bad because there is a true sense of community. I feel safe, maintenance needs are always quick, the property is immaculate!! Icouldn't imagine living any place else. Thank you to everyone truly from the bottom of my heart.
