Norma Jane Apartments

I lived here for 1.5 months in the fall of 2012. I lost a lot of my possessions to bed bug infestation, which was the cause of my early departure. The land lord would come into my apartment without my permission when I wasn't home. When I moved into the apartment he had explained that the water shutoff was in my apartment so he wouldn't be able to give me 24 hours notice before entering my apartment, however he did not tell me at all when he was going to enter my apartment. I would find out... because my lights would be turned off and the AC would be turned off which I had specifically left on for my dog. Also since the buildings water heater was wired with my apartments electricity, I wouldn't pay an electric bill but would pay a substantially higher rent. This makes the fact that he would turn off the AC even more annoying since it only saved my landlord money and resulted in an uncomfortable environment for my dog. I couldn't figure out why I was getting painful, itchy bites and when I did finally identify the problem it took him a week to get back to me. He was on vacation and neither him nor the person who was supposed to handle emergencies in his absence could be bothered. After several days of not hearing back my boyfriend, who did not live with me and was not on the lease, called and left another message. When the landlord finally did call back he called my boyfriend and left an unintelligible message. So when the landlord once again entered my apartment without notifying me I was not present for our "appointment". He also claimed he couldn't find any bed bugs. Only a couple of days later when he entered my apartment again without my knowledge and found the bag of bedbugs I saved to prove I had an infestation, did he admit that they were a problem. He insisted he owed me nothing for all the cleaning fees for my stuff and time spent living elsewhere. Also when I finally told him that I was leaving at the end of the month, he refused to return my $1000 security deposit. This he kept on top of my nonrefundable $500 pet deposit. During my short stay I noticed that when people moved out they left their mattresses by the dumpsters, when I moved out I understood why. My wooden bed and mattress were also left in the dumpster.
