The Hilltop Apartment Homes

I recently moved out of Hilltop “Luxury” Homes (formerly The Brooke) after nearly seven years and feel obligated to warn others. I lived there from 2019 and served for several years as the on-site courtesy (police) officer, which gave me visibility most tenants never have.

From move-in, the unit showed clear neglect: worn flooring, damaged cabinets, missing paint, pest infestations—including a roach nest—and structural issues management dismissed as “good enough.” That mindset defined the... experience.

Serious incidents were common, including fights, drug activity, and shootings. Despite this, management was routinely unreachable. I documented incidents and attempted notification, but they often learned about major events only through Temple PD. Eventually, ownership eliminated the courtesy officer position entirely to save money, despite ongoing safety concerns.

Maintenance was consistently unreliable. Work orders sat for months or were marked “completed” without repairs. Wildlife infestations were common; raccoons accessed units through walls and attics. After maintenance removed part of an exterior wall near my balcony and left it open, raccoons moved in. Management’s solution would have trapped them inside my unit. Similar issues affected other residents.

Basic operations were poorly managed. One dumpster was removed for nearly a year, causing constant overflow. HVAC systems failed regularly. Appliances were replaced only after repeated failed repairs. Parking rules were unenforced—reserved spaces were routinely taken, and towing was discouraged by management.

Communication from management was often arrogant and dismissive. A brief improvement after a management change didn’t last. The complex also eliminated non-electronic rent payment options, ignoring elderly and disabled residents.

Hilltop prioritizes cosmetic updates over structural repairs—fresh paint instead of fixing failing buildings. Maintenance practices caused vehicle damage, and noise complaints were rarely addressed. Upon move-out, I was still charged cleaning fees despite documentation.

In short, this property is poorly managed, structurally neglected, and dismissive of tenants. I cannot recommend it. If you move here, I hope it’s temporary. This review is harsh—but truthful. Lee mas

This place is poorly managed, has staff that couldn't care less about you, will actually spy on you and your neighbors, and does a terrible job maintaining their apartments and amenities. You do NOT want to live here! There is trash everywhere, wild animals in the walls, peoples dogs poop everywhere and dont clean it up, the pool is closed half the time and the residents seem to be the only ones who clean it, the facilities such as the pool and its restroom are absolutely disgustingly filthy,... they never repair anything even after reported multiple times and waiting a year, the apartments air conditioning stops working if you try to keep the temp below 75, depending on the time of day you may or may not have access to hot water long enough to shower, bathroom fixtures in the apartments are covered in rust and calcium to the point of breaking from corrosion....the list goes on and on. You'd have to be pretty desperate to live here and had I known all this before moving in I wouldn't have. There are places that are better for similar or lower rent. This place is about as bad as an apartment complex can get without being shutdown by city officials. Lee mas

This is a great place to began your apartment life in Temple, The renovated apartments are beautiful and classy. The 1 bedroom loft apartment is my favorite. For the price of a 2 bedroom/1 bath, it is very spacious and cozy. The apartment community is secluded, so no traffic noise or loud house neighbors. You won't find renovated apartments at these prices as Hilltop Apartments.

Not providing what I signed on my lease!!! Pool closed the whole sommer, laundry room badly damaged, dog park is disgusting! Won’t give me even a little discount for all the inconveniences! New paint outside doesn’t change a thing!!!

I love living here! All the management and staff are super friendly. I Couldn’t ask for a better place to live ??
