Located in Saint Louis’ South Side region, Dutchtown is one of the city’s largest and oldest neighborhoods. Dutchtown South is home to several historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places. Shotgun cottages, bungalows, Four Square houses, and brick apartments are located throughout the neighborhood while mansions rest on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Along with its historic architecture, Dutchtown South is known for being home to the oldest location of a local favorite, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. Dutchtown South is so large that it resembles a small city and the area is laden with shops, restaurants, and other businesses. Meramec Street is referred to as Downtown South and is filled with cafes and resale shops while parks like Marquette Park add greenery to the area.
