Internet is slow and expensive; management is awful to work with
Despite what they advertise on their website and what you may have read online, they do not provide, or even offer, gigabit-speed internet. They only work with one ISP, AWB, and the fastest speed offered is 300 up/down, which will set you back $225/month. They do not even allow other ISPs to service the building, so it's impossible to get what they advertised. This is more or less the theme of Mac properties. Stay away, there are better alternatives for this insanely high rent.

A nice building run by an awful management company.
This building used to be a dormitory, but MAC Property Management purchased it and renovated the building to serve as apartments. I moved into Shoreland in early 2014 shortly after it reopened, and at the time I had high hopes for the place despite MAC Property's awful reputation in Hyde Park. Unfortunately, MAC ended up being just as awful as I had heard they were, and so I am moving out of here in a couple of weeks after having lived in Shoreland for over 2 years.
At the time I moved in (in... early 2014), there were two dedicated study rooms, a spacious gym with wooden flooring and mirrored walls, and a gaming room with a billiard table and a ping pong table on the 2nd floor. There were also many empty rooms on the 2nd floor, and as I was taking a tour before signing my lease, I asked the agent what they planned on putting in those spaces, to which they responded that perhaps a dry cleaner or a restaurant would go in there. Although the existing amenities were not part of a tenant's contracts, I reasonably assumed I would get to use what I was shown at the time. Fast forward to 2015. MAC decided to replace the brand new gym with office space; they turned the gaming room into a small, awkward gym; and they turned one of the two study rooms into a gaming room. They also filled in all of the empty spaces in the 1st and 2nd floors with office space, so now this building essentially acts as both an apartment and a corporate office for MAC. By doing so, MAC not only eliminated some of their residents' amenities, but they also made it difficult to find parking throughout the day because a lot of the free spots outside are taken up by employees of MAC who are working downstairs. MAC did the same thing at Regents Park just a year before (i.e., told residents that they were "renovating" the gym but downsized it and made more room for their office space).
There are many other examples I would like to write here as to why I would never recommend this property or other properties managed by MAC to a friend, but this website limits the length of entries so I will just say that this building is not worth what they charge for it, and it is poorly managed and continually gets worse (for the tenants, but better for MAC employees) over time.

Awesome community
I moved back to Hyde park area from west loop, because I truly miss the community. Hyde parkers have some of the most diverse & interesting people in the midwest. From business professionals, lawyers, students, small business owners to IT Geeks like myself it's a humbled community that takes pride in the area.
