Not Worth the Price or Stress — Disappointing Experience at AMLI Evanston
We lived at AMLI Evanston for almost 2.5 years, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant.
From the beginning, there were problems. When we applied online, we were shown a unit over video that turned out to be completely different from the one we were given. The apartment we moved into was on the second floor facing an alley, with the view blocked by another old building. The thermostat never worked properly — freezing in winter and hot in summer. In October 2023, management... decided not to turn on the heating, and we both caught colds. When we reached out, the manager was rude and unhelpful, insisting that nothing would change.
We also had recurring spider issues in our unit, which required pest control intervention. Throughout our stay, the staff were dismissive and often impolite, rarely addressing residents’ concerns. Even when people struggled with heavy items at the door, they ignored it — which makes me wonder what disabled residents do without automatic door openers inside the building.
After the first year, we moved to a 5th-floor unit with higher rent to avoid relocating elsewhere, but things didn’t improve. The washing and drying machines were terrible — clothes came out stained and musty no matter how many wash cycles or detergent we used. I even had to throw away several items.
Also, when they advertise “four-month leases,” the term is actually 6–10 days shorter, and you’ll pay a costly daily rate if you need to extend. Always confirm the exact lease length in writing.
When we moved out in September 2025, we received an important government letter after returning our keys. Despite several polite requests to the management (E. and C.V.) for help retrieving it, they were completely unresponsive, showing no sense of responsibility — even after over two years as residents.
The only positive is that the units are clean and relatively new, but you can easily find better apartments nearby with similar or nicer units, better amenities, and far more respectful management.
Overall: AMLI Evanston is not worth the price or frustration. Poor management, lack of accountability, and unhelpful staff make it a stressful place to live. Look elsewhere — you’ll find better value and service.
