Upset and Disappointed Potential Renter
We spent the day touring several apartment communities in Slidell as part of our relocation process. My fiancé is active-duty military and will soon be stationed in the area, and I’ll be starting my career as a young professional on the North Shore. Finding the right home is very important to us.
Earlier in the day, we had scheduled tours at other communities and received excellent, professional service. After lunch, we decided to stop by Greenbrier without an appointment, hoping for a similar... experience.
Unfortunately, that was not the case.
While we understand that we did not have a scheduled tour, we still expected a basic level of courtesy and professionalism. Instead, we were met with visible annoyance, including eye rolls and a general lack of interest in assisting us.
Rather than being welcomed or offered a tour, we were told that availability information could be found on the website and were given a brief explanation of how to navigate it. This was the extent of the “tour” we received.
What was most concerning, however, was the tone and nature of the conversation that followed. After learning that my fiancé is active-duty military, the property manager made assumptions about our financial situation. She implied that my income would not significantly contribute toward qualifying for a lease and suggested that I could negatively impact the application process.
This felt both unprofessional and inappropriate, especially since we had not yet provided any detailed information about our financial backgrounds.
For context, we are both experienced renters and fully understand the application process, including credit, income, and background checks. Earlier that day, other communities explained these requirements in a respectful and informative manner. Our experience here stood in stark contrast.
We left feeling judged based on our circumstances rather than being fairly evaluated as potential renters. It was also suggested that the property might be out of reach for us financially, which was surprising given that it is similarly priced to other communities we toured and are seriously considering.
What’s most disappointing is how discouraging this interaction could have been for someone less familiar with the rental process. A more professional and respectful approach would have made a significant difference.
Due to the lack of professionalism, poor customer service, and uncomfortable interaction, we will not be considering this property moving
