Centre at Silver Spring

We came in on Friday, our contracted move-in date to pay our deposit, provide remaining documents, get our keys, and view the apartment. We paid our deposit of one month’s rent + prorated rent and were waiting on our keys for about 30-45min before we were told by the rep that it was, "time to be honest" and that there was a "spill" and we would be unable to move into the apartment. We were assured that it was the same style apartment and on the same floor (second), but just in a different... building. We were also offered one on the 4th floor but declined, as that’s not the floor we originally wanted. Sharma told us the one on the 2nd floor was the better option anyway and took us to view the apartment. We were told that the carpet and kitchen flooring were new but other than that, we could tell the apartment was NOT ready for move-in. This has been a truly unacceptable situation. Outside of LaPreea apologizing once while we were at the office on Friday, she’s done nothing else to remedy the situation. She knew the state of the unit she had Sharma show us and never came to us personally to explain the situation. She never followed up with us yesterday after being told of the unacceptable state of the unit at move-in. I don’t believe our intended unit was unmovable due to a spill. I believe it simply wasn’t ready, and they failed to communicate that with us. They should have been upfront, so we had the ability to weigh our options. They took away our choice when they decided to tell us on THE DAY WE WERE SCHEDULED TO MOVE IN that we would not be getting the intended unit. We’ve been here two days, and nothing has gone right. Overpriced for what you’re getting. After I got my keys, roaches were literally everywhere. Maintenance does the bare minimum to fix things, people were shooting in front of the apartment building, cars were stolen from the parking lot and they will nickel and dime you at move out. Avoid this place.

Recently, the property was sold to another company. Since then:

- Maintenance has declined in response time, professionalism, and quality. Maintenance has moved from prevention of problems to waiting until a situation becomes untenable before responding. Certian repairs (especially stairwells and fire alarm systems) have taken unacceptably long to address.

- Trash removal has become an issue, with piles of rubbish strewn throughout the property. Local company no longer routinely removes trash... and rubbish.

- Firelanes routinely blocked by parked cars.

- Significant increase in pests due to property cleanliness issues, outside control of tenants.

- Nearly 8 months have gone by with a lock on a maintenance access hatch being visibly and clearly broken into, and no repairs.

We had a tour scheduled for today which we never got. The leasing office was in a one bedroom apartment!! There was one staff member in the office, she had poor management skills. Kept taking tenants and prospective renters. We waited 45 mins then left. Tenants were complaining about several issues. One, they have a community water bill. Response was, we went through 3 management companies and that’s this current one does the water bill. Staff member then started talking about her... vet called and she had to pick up her dog!!!! Another tenant complained about her AC which has not been working for a while; right then maintenance worker came in to say AC company did not show up again. Don’t let website fool you.
