    Reasonable Rent But With Issues

    I've lived at Gentry's Landing since 2023. Until this year (2026) I'd rate it as "excellent" in all major aspects of apartment living.
    First the pluses. The rent's reasonable for downtown St. Louis and considering how old it is (built in 1965) it's still pretty nice. The maintenance men are very good and have their hands full in handling major issues (such as plumbing) but usually quickly respond to individual tenant problems. Because of its age, it requires a lot of effort and money for its    … upkeep and until recently, it seemed the owners spent what it took to maintain things.
    Now the minuses. One major problem is one or more of the elevators constantly break down and are out of service (one has been non-functioning for most of this year). Gentry's said last year that they were getting new ones, but only the flooring has been replaced, which looks nice but does nothing to solve the mechanical issues. The elevator repairmen have been here quite a bit, but there's a limit to what they can do with such out-of-date systems and the last I heard was that they gave up on one of them. The others are slow to come to the floors (good luck during morning rush hour-a lot of times when one stops on my floor it's packed to capacity and I can't get on). They now "hope" to replace them next year but I'll believe it when I see it.
    The hallways on each floor are now hit and miss. The hallway walls on my floor are dingy with many scrapes, stray marks and discoloration and many of the ceiling panels are water stained. Gentry's has two painters and I think it'd be possible for them to take a few days just to do some touch-up work, but apparently not. Several months ago, it was announced that carpets on each floor were to be replaced (that project has stopped after just several were done). The leasing staff sends out emails and posts messages when these projects start, but when they suddenly stop, there's total silence and if a tenant follows up, the story will vary as to why.
    Until about a month ago, Gentry's lobby attendants would log in packages and put a notice in tenants mailboxes that a package had been delivered, and lock them up until it was claimed. Now they no longer do that after putting in an Amazon hub. It's supposed to be locked 24/7 but has always been unlocked when I've gone there.

    Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback and for being a resident since 2023. We truly appreciate your recognition of our maintenance team and the effort that goes into maintaining a historic high-rise property like Gentry’s Landing… .

    We understand the frustration surrounding the elevators, and we agree this has been one of the building’s biggest challenges. Elevator modernization planning and preparation began in late 2024, and installation of all-new elevator equipment, including hoists, controllers, and upgraded cab interiors, is scheduled to begin in mid-June. While ongoing repairs have helped keep service operational, we recognize the limitations of maintaining legacy systems and look forward to delivering long-term improvements in reliability and performance. The project will be completed in phases as work progresses through the elevator system.

    Several additional improvement projects are also actively underway throughout the property. Hallway carpet replacement has already been completed on 10 floors, with additional floors scheduled as work continues in phases. We are also excited to reopen the renovated pool area for residents over Memorial Day weekend.

    Regarding the package room, the new system has only been operational for a couple of weeks, and we are continuing to make adjustments and improvements during the transition. As more residents enroll in the locker system and delivery drivers become familiar with the new process, we expect the overall experience and security of the package room to continue improving.
