Hawthorne at Oak Ridge

Prospective tenants deserve to know what my 22-year-old daughter has experienced after moving into Hawthorne at Oak Ridge.

She moved into her one-bedroom loft apartment on July 1. The only bedroom is upstairs and has two HVAC vents. From the day she moved in, one of those vents has not blown any air. During one of the hottest weeks of the summer, with outdoor temperatures approaching or exceeding 100°, the bedroom has consistently reached temperatures above 80 degrees, making it extremely… uncomfortable to sleep in.

Maintenance requests were submitted on July 2, July 6, and July 8. Instead of fixing the problem, the requests were repeatedly closed as "Work Completed" even though no repairs had been made and the bedroom remained unbearably hot. Closing maintenance tickets without resolving the issue gives the appearance that problems have been addressed when they have not.

My daughter is a full-time college student and works as a waitress. She should be able to come home and sleep in a bedroom that is reasonably cooled. Instead, she has spent her first week in this apartment repeatedly reporting the same problem while management has failed to provide a solution.

The most disappointing part has not been the HVAC issue itself—mechanical problems happen. It's the apparent lack of urgency, communication, accountability, and follow-through. A basic expectation when renting an apartment is that the only bedroom will have adequate air conditioning, especially during dangerous summer heat.

If management eventually resolves this issue, I'll gladly update this review. Until then, based on our experience, I cannot recommend Hawthorne at Oak Ridge. Love living at Hawthorne At Oak Ridge the maintenance staff is always quick to fix any issues that come up and the office Staff is always there to help me if I have a problem. I love the resident events that they hold.

To me, what you put in is what you get out. From the moment I moved in, I have made efforts to get to know my neighbors and the staff. Call me a crazy people person, but this has truly made my experience so sweet. I have made authentic, genuine friendships with those around me and I am greeted by the lovely staff each time I go on a walk with my dog (who they all know by name). Overpriced for the amount of space you get. I’ve asked for repairs and updates (cabinets Falling apart, the dishwasher doesn’t work well, gaps in the door frame.) I was told I would have to get a remodeled apt. For hundreds more a month. I had an incident where I was locked out on a very rainy day and office staff refused help.
