Academy Place Apartments

I am thrilled to be back here at Academy Place (CFA) where I spent the first two years of my thirty-one year teaching career, this time as a tenant. The building is such a beautiful structure, and I am pleased that they were able to regenerate various rooms of the school for continued functionality. Half of the old gymnasium still remains, and it has been reworked as the fitness center complete with top end fitness equipment, weights, and even a basketball court. The auditorium, still with… its original seating and stage, functions as a monthly movie theater/community event room. The clubhouse, located in the old projection room above the auditorium, is a great area to mingle. It can accommodate up to a couple dozen people and comes with a kitchenette, living room & dining room furnishings, a large screen TV, and a small business center. Each apartment is unique, yet each has its own coziness that allows the tenant to relax and absorb the history of the structure. We love to cook and entertain friends and our kitchen is perfect for such purposes. Although I prefer a gas stove for cooking, I was able to quickly adapt to electric. The side-by-side refrigerator/freezer works well and the ice machine/filtered water are a plus. A large microwave and a dishwasher round out the kitchen. The entire apartment complex is very quiet. We live on the first floor, the location of apartment mailboxes, and still, we are amazed at how quiet and private the hallway is. The bathrooms are very roomy and we have enjoyed the oversized, walk-in showers with a hand-held shower head. Having a full-sized washer and dryer in each apartment is huge. We are not big air conditioning people, but that option is available if temperatures are running on the warm side. In the winter, the heat is very comfortable. As far as utilities are concerned, refuse (trash & recycling) and cable/internet (two cable ports) are included in our monthly rent. We have found the electric and water bills to very comparable to when we owned a home. Overall, I give Academy Place Apartments a 4.5 out of 5 stars, as no place is absolutely perfect. It is a very clean, quiet, and secure living environment with a relaxed community atmosphere that is easily within walking distance of historic Market Street, the Rockwell Museum, and The Corning Museum of Glass. All things seem good at the beginning. All the good kitchen and bathroom. However, when it is raining, terrible plumbing system! All water from underground back flashing outside the toilet and kitchen sink. This makes all kitchen and bathroom a huge mess. This happened in the 10:30 pm in the evening, the office is closed, and no one came in after an hour even emergency phone call has been made.
