East Gate Apartments

I recently moved out of this apartment complex and had a very disappointing experience. They took $400 from my deposit, claiming the apartment was not clean, which is absolutely not true. I cleaned the apartment thoroughly, as I always do when I move out. This is the first time I've been fined upon moving out, despite leaving this apartment in the same condition as all my previous ones.
Even though I requested evidence multiple times, they did not provide any proof, just a bill for $180 for... steam carpet cleaning, $160 for kitchen and bath cleaning, and $60 for “building supplies drip pand” (!!) which is completely unacceptable. The whole apartment, including the carpet, kitchen (which is so small and barely walkable), and bathroom, was clean when I left. There were no marks on the walls, just two tiny nails in the bedroom, and none in the dining room.
Additionally, the unit was in the basement and extremely noisy. Anytime someone walked upstairs, it would wake me up in the middle of the night. When I first moved in, the fridge was not working, and they replaced it with one from their storage that was absolutely disgusting. The heater is centrally controlled by maintenance, and last year they didn't turn it on until sometime in October, even though it had been very cold in Syracuse, especially at night, for weeks prior. So, although they say heating is included, you still need your own heater until they decide to turn on the complex heating. Despite these issues, I never complained.
I do not recommend this apartment complex due to their unfair deposit practices and the overall poor living conditions. If you do not have the time or an attorney to get your deposit back from them, STAY AWAY!

In the cold winter, the heating was broken. I called the office, but no one answered and there was no voice message. I couldn't find anyone to fix it. I caught a cold in the cold.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. Myself and other neighbors experienced sewage flooding into our units, neighbors shower coming up into the bathroom, dishwashers flooding, pipes backing up, mice, etc. These buildings have a real plumbing problem and maintenance does not care, in fact the landlord never answers any calls or emails. Every step your neighbors take sounds like a bowling ball being dropped onto your head, the walls are so thin. Doors are constantly left open all day and night year round (even in... the snow), there are no locks. And to top it off, they will not return your deposit at the end. Read More
