Trust your gut.
Being new to New York, finding an apartment was probably one of the most stressful experiences I've been through since moving here. You're constantly skeptical - of your broker (will they charge you an outrageous broker's fee?), of a certain neighborhood (will this be the place I want to be in a couple of months?) and of the price you're getting offered (will this be the rent I pay a year from now?). And to be honest, a lot of those questions weren't answered until I actually move into my... apartment.
After being here for a few months, however, I learned one thing that I didn't have to be skeptical of: my gut. It can be hard to explain, but like they say when you find "the one," when ya know, ya know.
When walked into my (now) apartment, all those questions popped into my mind (and kept me on track for asking the right questions), but ultimately, I just knew that after seeing apartment after apartment, this was the one for me.
So for all those stressed apartment hunters, I have a few pieces of advice: 1) Don't settle! 2) Do your research. 3) Trust your gut.
