Roaches and Mice
My daughter moved in on August 15th. On Night 1 we see roaches in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and foyer. This continues every night since. On Night 2, a rodent ate through unopened food on the dining table. Every morning since we find rodent droppings. My daughter only spent 2 nights there. We notified the property on August 20th that we were breaking the lease. The place is disgusting and they did not provide a livable space. They are still holding us to 60-days' notice plus the... 2-month penalty, so 4 months' worth of rent despite them putting us in an INFESTED room from Day 1. You put a new tenant in an infested room and then hide behind legalese when they leave? Shameful corporate behavior; disgusting ethics (and property).
Other things of note when we moved in:
- The shelves were covered in granular material. We believe this to be spices. Floors were gross. Did they not clean?
- The dishwasher inside was COVERED in mold. They did replace it when we called them on it, but the disconcerting part is that the dishwasher was running when we moved in. My conclusion: someone saw it and tried to cover it up.
- A/C did not work. (They replaced it.)
- Screen door was broken.
- Lights outside the building were not working, so the walk from the parking lot to the door was in near darkness.
- Walked the alley behind the building--hanging conduit, open cable boxes, decrepit balconies.
- Fire doors to outside are damaged with gaps at bottom.
- Hallway carpet was disgusting.
- Fire extinguisher hanging off of wall.
- Gaps in perimeter fence.
I wish I could post pictures here, then I wouldn't have to say this: Do not sign a lease here.
