Took our money even though the apartment was not move in ready.
I had an extremely disappointing experience with this apartment complex.
On my scheduled move-in day, the apartment was nowhere near move-in ready. There were bugs throughout the unit, it hadn’t been cleaned, the microwave was missing, a closet door was missing, an outlet cover was missing, and the flooring was lifting. After signing the lease and paying rent, this was the last thing I expected.
Because the apartment wasn’t ready, we couldn’t move in as planned. We had already hired movers and... still had to pay them even though we couldn’t complete the move, which cost us even more money.
Management offered to move us into a different unit about a week later, but after seeing the condition of the first apartment, I wasn’t comfortable agreeing to another unit without seeing it first. Before that could happen, we found another apartment.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that the complex initially refused to refund our money and claimed we were breaking the lease, even though they failed to provide a livable, move-in-ready apartment on the agreed date. After weeks of dealing with the issue, they only refunded a little over $400, leaving us to absorb the rest of the financial loss.
This experience caused unnecessary stress, unexpected expenses, and a scramble to find another place to live. I hope the management takes more responsibility for ensuring apartments are actually clean, complete, and ready before asking new residents to move in.
