Do's & Don'ts for Starting a Decorating Project

Do's & Don'ts for Starting a Decorating Project

Hi there! I hope you’ve enjoyed my “moving” series! Are you all moved in and settled? If so, you might be ready to tackle your first decorating project! Before you head out to your nearest furniture store, here are a few helpful dos and don’ts to keep in mind! Do’s Do de-clutter and get rid of things you don’t need or use. If you need help figuring out what should stay and what should go, take the advice I gave you in my previous post and invite a friend over to help! Do look at each piece of furniture that you choose to keep with a fresh eye. Maybe you can repurpose it to give it a facelift. Add a fresh coat of paint to a bookcase, or have a wingback chair reupholstered in a new, more current fabric.Dos-and-Donts-Armchair-Forrent.com_ Dos-and-Donts-Pillows-Forrent.com_ Do create a space plan that allows optimal functionality and flow throughout your room. Think about traffic patterns, focal points and light sources. Do bring color into your home through paint, floor coverings and decorative accents. Use a fabric or a piece of artwork as your inspiration for a fresh new color palette. Don’ts Don’t pack your space with lots of furniture and accents. Edit, edit, edit! Don’t paint the walls without knowing your complete decorating plan. It’s much easier to select the perfect paint color if you use it to support your overall color scheme rather than be the driver of it. Don’t decorate for the Joneses. This is YOUR home, so it should be a reflection of your tastes, interests and lifestyle.
