How to Fix a Stuck Window

How to Fix a Stuck Window

Having to deal with a stuck window can be a pain, especially when you want to feel a nice cool breeze. And if you need help, ForRent.com can show you how to open a stuck window.
You’ll want to make sure the window can be opened in the first place. Some windows are nailed or sealed shut. And if the window can open, be sure it isn’t locked or latched shut first. The window may be stuck due to too much paint. If that’s the case, you’ll need to loosen the paint. You can do this with a razor knife by cutting the space between the window and the frame. Check the outside to make sure there are no paint problems there either. If paint isn’t the problem, take a putty knife and insert it between the frame and window. You made need to move it back and forth to loosen the sides. You can hammer the edges of the window as well, but you’ll want to do so by placing a wooden block on the side of the window and tapping it gently. Use lubricating spray to grease the moving parts of the window. You may have to loosen the window one side at a time as you push up. If all else fails, a pry bar can be used, but use the wooden block to give it added leverage and pry gently. And voila! A newly unstuck window, perfect for airing out your home.
