“Have Yourself an Eco-Friendly Christmas!”

Christmas is almost here! During Christmas, we’re usually concerned with giving to our loved ones but we must not forget to give to our planet and be environmentally friendly! This Christmas lets Go-Green, Go-Green, Go-Green! Just think about all the wrapping paper we purchase that is quickly ripped up and thrown away. How can you contribute to going green this Christmas?

Christmas Cards that Protect the Environment.

How many people really cherish Christmas cards given to them? Honestly, most of them are thrown away. Go-Green and send free e-cards online!

Holiday Wrapping Paper.

Dear large garbage bags that we stuff with wrapping paper year after year…we apologize! Now, I know you’re getting overwhelmed just thinking about all the ripped paper that will lie on your floor Christmas morning. But don’t worry my friend; I have a solution to your problem! Wrap your smaller gifts with fabric. The fabric is better for the environment than wrapping paper and is less messy! Another suggestion would be to reuse gift bags from year to year. They fold up and store easily and make gift giving a breeze!

Buy Local at Christmas.

This tip is not only good for Christmas but year-round. When you buy from local artisans, you help decrease packaging and transportation environmental costs.

Christmas Tree.

Many people debate over whether or not artificial trees or real trees are better for the environment. If you do buy a real tree make sure you plant another one and/or check into the option of donating the one you bought to a local rest home or children’s center after the holidays.

Christmas Gifts

If purchasing electronic gifts, dispose of old electronic components and batteries responsibly. Whenever possible, purchase gifts made from recycled materials or from retailers that support eco-friendly business.

Energy Awareness Over the Holidays.

Cut back on Christmas lighting. Consider purchasing efficient LED lights; you can save up to 90% on your energy costs that way.

Holiday Food.

Try not to buy more food than you’re going to eat. If you have leftovers, throw something together and create another meal. Another option would be to donate your leftovers. Please don’t throw away good food!

Mohandas Gandhi said, “There is a sufficiency in the world for a man’s need but not for man’s greed”… How will you contribute to an environmentally friendly planet this Christmas?
