Not the Same Place It Used to Be

I’ve lived at Catalina Gardens for a while, and it’s worsened over the past few years. The courtyards used to be pleasant with trees and chairs, and the pool was clean. Now everything feels neglected.

Even worse, there have been more and more issues with security. In passing, other residents have mentioned that homeless drug addicts have been breaking into vehicles in the garage, getting into the building, sleeping in the hallways, knocking on apartment doors, and making people feel unsafe....
Management hasn’t done much about it, and there’s barely any communication when things happen. The homeless know this, making the problem worse by the day.

It’s not the same place it used to be. If you’re considering moving here, you should know what you’re getting into.

Bad, even by Ktown Standards

Cross posting my review.

Putting a 1 star here in anticipation of the community manager, who was very rude to me in our interactions, responds.

There was an attempted break in on our unit. I asked for details from the Catalina Gardens team at least 3times. Each time, they said “we will get back to you.” They never did once on my complaints.

There are ~16 washers in the entire building. To my best recollection, 1-2 of them have worked since January. I have reported the issue multiple times. I...
was told in August that the issue would be fixed in 2 weeks. When I left in Nov, the washers were not fixed to my knowledge. To make matters worse, the community manager messaged the building around that time to tell us we could always call the washer owners to schedule maintenance on them. We have been calling them since January! No one ever came.

I did not see the value of paying this building the rent they were asking so I broke my lease. Before the community manager responds to say they’re “always proactive” or something, I want her to know we have interacted many times with her team. You are not proactive. You do not tend to respond to follow ups to make living in the building safer or cleaner.

At least that was my experience.

I'm updating my review in response to the property manager's response. They promised to call that afternoon but then never did. It's been about 2 weeks now. I emailed the team to remind them they promised to reach out. Still nothing.

I would also like to add that it's hard to hear them say that my experience is not indicative of the service they try to provide. Within 24 hours of their comment, their move out team tried to illegally withhold my security deposit. I'll post more about that below. I'm still in legal proceedings to get the rest of my security deposit. So much for my experience, in Catalina Garden's words below, not being indicative of the service they try to provide.

The long story short on the security deposit is as follows. We did a very good job cleaning up when we left. We asked them to come take a look so we wouldn't be charged. Their staff told us in no uncertain terms, "You're in unit 123 - don't worry about anything. We will remodel as soon as you move out." Sure enough, they remodeled and then (my read on the situation) tried to send us the bill for the remodel. They gave some of our deposit back when I threatened to go to small claims court. But I believe I'm entitled to the entirety of my security deposit.

not worth it

I currently live here. There’s roaches and although they tell you they have pest control it doesn’t do anything. The management is bad. It’s too expensive for the way of living. You can find something better for the same price. The moment my lease ends I am out of here

Avoid at all costs

Absolutely terrible. Property managers were beyond difficult, unnecessarily catty, and very professional. Almost every interaction with them was unpleasant. 95% of the time they were unavailable during operating hours, unreachable by phone or in the office. And this was the case even before Quarantine. The rent is unreasonably high for the amount of issues we endured: being locked in the garage because the gates wouldn’t open (and having no one in the office during operating hours to help solve... the problem), access card to enter the building suddenly & spontaneously not working, flooding in bathroom due to poor pipes, both elevators malfunction quite frequently, malfunctioning of the washer, dryer, and even the machine to purchase credit for laundry. As one of the reviews mentions, there was also damage done to my car due to leaky pipes in the garage. And to top it all off, there were some really noisy & inconsiderate neighbors. So noisy that my roommate & I would physically leave our apartment on several occasions for hours just to have some quiet. And despite multiple attempts to get management involved, they refused to do anything about it. All of this occurred under a one year lease. Everyone should stay away from this place.

Good Leasing

The Leasing guy is really friendly, informative, and helpful. Most places don't upfront with their numbers, but this place is really open and honest. The deal also really good. The tour is helpful and the building is in good condition
