This place is held together with duct tape and baling wire

The apartment was built in the 1960s and has never been updated. There are two stories in a horse shoe shape around a pool that is never heated. There is an onsite manager who does his best but he has no budget for repairs. When my garbage disposal quit working he brought in a used one for the replacement. The owner himself showed up to replace a screen that had a hole in it, and was quite nasty about tenants who "made trouble" hint hint that if I wasn't happy with a torn screen I could "Move... out any time."

The Bay Area (San Francisco) has a gigantic shortage of housing, apartment rents are astronomical. The owner of this place is making hay while the sun shines. I'm saving up for a condo.
