Just OK

For some background, I signed with The Hive back in spring of 2024, months before the building was completed and I was able to actually step into it. I then moved in August 2024 and lived in a 2-bedroom apartment with a random roommate through The Hive's roommate matching system.

Part of the reason why I chose to sign a lease here is because there were many amenities included and it was a furnished apartment. Unfortunately, my dislikes outweigh my initial likes.

The issues I had with the... apartment include the building, location, and environment/people. Starting off with the furnishings (which was initially one of my likes) it is very obvious from first sitting or laying down on the furniture, it is a bit uncomfortable and cheap quality.

Second, the location of the apartment is just a bit too far of a walk from campus. Sure, there is (very expensive) parking provided by the building and a bus stop (that is actually not-so-close), and it's not so bad in the warmer weather, but in the winter it can get very dangerous. My other issue with the location is that it is right near the train tracks. It not only makes sleeping at night very difficult, but also going anywhere north (campus/downtown) annoying since it can delay your travel time.

Finally, I had trouble with the environment/people. The building could get very rowdy and loud on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I would not have minded it if the walls were not so thin that I could hear anything (from above, next to, and outside of my room) OR if the managers were stricter at enforcing rules. There were also many instances when the fire alarms went off -- I remember it went off in the very early morning, and then very late at night IN THE SAME DAY! I also found that, whenever I went to the front desk to ask a question or follow up on an issue, I was most often met with annoyance.

While The Hive is designed nicely and has a "students first" model for housing, it does not rank high on my list.

As the Property Manager, it’s incredibly disheartening to know that what was meant to be a positive and comfortable living experience fell short... for you. I also want to sincerely apologize if you ever felt dismissed or unwelcome when visiting the front desk. Please know, you are never a bother - we are here and happy to help. While the front office can get busy at times, it is never our intention to make anyone feel like an annoyance, and we are so sorry if that was the impression you received.

We are always here to support our residents to the best of our abilities - our office is open 7 days a week, and we also offer an on-call service for reporting noise complaints to our staff or the on-site after-hours security guard. We take every report seriously and work hard to respond promptly and thoroughly. We’ll be taking a closer look at the concerns you mentioned regarding the furnishings, building noise, and location as we continue working to enhance the overall living experience at The Hive.

It’s great so far! The staff is nice. courtyard is great and gym facilities are awesome. You get everything you need leaving here! They even got a sauna which is something unique about this place! I’m excited. This space makes living exciting

I have really enjoyed living here, the only part I haven't enjoyed was that my roommate left halfway through the year and I was looking for a roommate that I was able to become good friends with.
