Michael's Manor

Michael’s manor was without a doubt the WORST rental experience I have ever had. I would like to clarify first though that the landlord Liz was amazing and this review has nothing to do with her! ??

I am not hard to please and was not upset by the paper thin walls, or the terrible carpet, and horrible condition that the laminate flooring was in. I didn’t mind that they made me keep their filthy couch and eye sore of a dresser, or that the appliances were in terrible condition (my fridge... actually broke while I lived there). With all those things aside I was fine with living there and did live there for 2 years. When it finally came time to move out I did what everyone does and I scrubbed that 400sq ft apartment from top to bottom. I scrubbed the baseboards, the walls, vacuumed out all the cupboards and drawers and wiped them out. I deep cleaned the bathroom on my hands and knees, bleaching everything in sight. I am a poor college student so I was trying my best to get my deposit back. I received a letter in the mail from them, hoping it was my deposit check. What I received instead was a piece of paper that read:

Utility fee: $10
Locks re-keyed: $30
3 stove burner pans: $27
Nail holes filled and painting: $135
Removal of wax on carpet: $35
Carpet cleaned: $75
Cleaning: $150
Total costs: $462 costs

Total costs: $462
Deposit: -$350
Amount owed to michaels manor: $112

11 days rent return: $146.63
Amount owed to Michaels manor: -$112

$34.63 total return

I later called the manager Andrew to find out how I could’ve possibly not got most of my return back let alone OWED money. He explained that there are things that need to be done to an apartment before it can be rented again, which is understandable, but I would like to know why it wasn’t done to mine when I moved in, and why they called it a “deposit” when they have NO INTENTION of giving it back. I was a wonderful clean tenant and am very disappointed in my treatment from Michael’s Manor.
