Scorchingly hot rooms, cut corners, and a dangerous area
The building's hallway AC was broken before I moved in and took a month to be fixed. Meanwhile, no concessions on rent were offered. Of course the ground floor AC needs to be running at all times to keep up appearances, so the leasing office was sitting at a cool 65 degrees the whole time. Meanwhile everyone else, especially those on the top floors, were enduring over 88 degrees in the hallways and over 81 degrees in the units, EVEN AT NIGHTTIME. My portable stand-up fan blows at max speed all... night to little avail. Units have no ceiling fan, no AC exhaust vent, and casement windows that crack open only a couple inches, not even enough to let in a faint breeze. I live by myself; imagine having a partner or a family and see how hot it'll get. Plus, the area is plain unsafe. Homeless people constantly pass through the alleyway where the entrance is at, and frequently do drugs with their tinfoil wrappers (heroin or meth, take your pick). Paper wrappers and trash in the alleyway are common due to the significant homeless presence. TLDR: avoid at all costs. Your happiest day at Niwa is the day you move out.
