Originally settled by German and Polish immigrants in the mid-1800s, Selma has transformed from a small stagecoach stop into a thriving community in the San Antonio metropolitan area. Located at the crossroads of three counties — Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe — this growing city offers direct access to Interstate 35, positioning residents just 18 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio and 13 miles southwest of New Braunfels.

The Forum at Olympia Parkway, located along Interstate 35, serves as the area's primary shopping destination with more than 110 stores and restaurants. Texas Racing at Retama Park, a thoroughbred racing facility, provides year-round entertainment and events right in town. Residents benefit from quick access to major employment centers via I-35, Loop 1604, and FM 1518, while still enjoying the area's less densely developed setting.

Selma's housing landscape includes a mix of newer rental communities and established neighborhoods. The area has grown substantially since 2000, with the population increasing from under 800 residents to more than 10,000 today. This expansion has introduced additional rental options while preserving the community's historical character, as seen in landmarks like the restored Selma Stage Stop. The city's position between San Antonio and New Braunfels offers renters easy access to both cities' amenities, including Natural Bridge Caverns, Schlitterbahn Water Park, and the San Antonio River Walk.
