Imperial Palms Apartments

Highly disappointed. Recently moved to the area and was seeking out a 55+ community. Since I was unaware of where to start at, I used apartments.com to help me with my search. I was able to find a few fairly decent communities, however this one in particular stood out because it was advertised as smoke free on apartments.com That was until a couple of weeks after moving in; my entire unit became consumed with cigarette smoke. When I first moved in, the temperature outside was extremely cold... which is probably why I did not immediately notice the smell, however, as soon as the temperature outside increased, it was extreme smoke everywhere in the unit. I began having trouble breathing as I have severe asthma. I reached out to the front office via email to ask about the smoking policy and was informed that the building that I moved into was an entire smoking building, I questioned if the community was smoke free and was informed that it wasn’t entirely smoke free. I informed the front office that I have severe asthma and most definitely would have not moved into a smoking unit or smoking building for that matter. I then sent an email requesting to change units to a building that was not entirely a smoking building, the response they I received back was mind blowing, non empathetic and was apparently seeking a way to place blame on me as the resident. Nonetheless, I was advised that my application was going to be reviewed and I would be reached back out to once it’s done. Not really sure what my application has to do with my request due to the severity of my health but I never heard a response back from anyone.

Over a week later, and still no response back from the front office or the area manager that only responded to my original email, and never responded to my follow up email.

I am left with no other option but to simply leave the community all together. I will not suffer in silence!

As a result I had an asthma attack and found myself in the emergency room the same day and haven’t been able to stay inside the unit since.

I am also disabled so now I am again preparing for another move. I am extremely disappointed in the treatment that I have received from this community and I encourage any future tenants to read all of the review carefully both old and new before moving into any community. I can only wish I had done the same for myself.

Lots of Issues with parking. You can't read the sun bleached and dirt on what is suppose to be apartment number. This causes the residents a lot of issues with each other. Nothing ever gets done. HUM

Imperial Palms is a 55 rental community of approximately 630 units conveniently located at a major intersection in Largo, Florida. There are two pools, two clubhouses, a tram that operates daily to shuttle residents through the community and to a nearby shopping plaza. Meal delivery is available daily and there are numerous onsite and offsite recreational opportunities offered by the activities department. The landscaping is mature and there are many places to walk safely. There are... pet-friendly buildings and even an onsite good-sized dog park. The community is adjacent to the Largo Community Center and across the street from the fantastic and new Highland Recreation Complex, which has a water park, lake and walking paths. The apartments are "vintage," about 40 years old and many have no updates. Maintenance staff is very helpful and does a great job within limitations imposed by management. Imperial Palms is part of an "intergenerational" complex owned by the Goodman Group, based in Minnesota. There is a Silver Palms for families, Sabal, Cypress, Regal and Royal Palms for various levels of medical care, memory care and assisted living. There is even an Experiential Day Care Center, which has a great reputation. Unfortunately for residents of the senior rental community, Imperial Palms, rents continue to rise every year and many residents are leaving because they are on fixed incomes. A plus or minus (depending on your point of view), is the weekly and/or short-term rental of units offered to tourists and international visitors. I found the apartment clean and stocked with everything I needed. The heated swimming pool was amazing and always super clean. The planned activities were of interest and I joined in and enjoyed. The bus trips were well planned destinations, grocery stores, malls, library, and all day trips. This year we went to the Strawberry Festival and to view the manatees by Apollo Beach. The nearby traffic was mostly heavy. But I could walk to two grocery stores, two drug stores, Bealls, dollar store and... numerous eating establishments. Read More
