Slow and incompetent staff during application process
Our experience with KRC Alderwood Trails was overwhelmingly negative. We wasted over a month communicating with them, and did not sign for the apartment due to their incompetence. They were slow to approve our income, and it was difficult to get ahold of management as our rep was only in the office on alternating days. When we made requests or asked questions, everything had to be sent to a manager for approval, which took multiple days to get resolved.
Furthermore, although we paid for a... two-person application, management made no attempts during the first (rejected) phase of processing our application to contact the second party; apparently their income was irrelevant in the overall process, even though combined we made an amount more than proportionate to the rental cost.
The worst aspect of trying to work with these people was their attitude. Even though we had paid for an application, and had ostensibly done everything possible to forward the process, they still treated us as replaceable every step of the way. When it came to approving our income, they did not do their due diligence and contact my employer, but turned us down without contacting them, or reaching out to us. After calling them back and asking them to reconsider, they spent another two weeks dragging their feet. At the end of that time, they approved us but told us to pay a $200 fee on their website within 48 hours. When I pulled up their website, it wasn’t showing the payment gateway they claimed would be accessible. They didn’t give us time to fix the problem with their website, and were slow to call me back within their own short ultimatum timeframe. They eventually gave us the service phone number for the software they use for online payments, but by then it was too late, and we were unable to fix the issue before their hard deadline. This was exceedingly frustrating, because it was a problem with their software, and thus not our fault. They took no responsibility, and brushed me aside when I pushed back.
It was incredibly difficult trying to work with KRC Alderwood, and I would not recommend them. I was able to find another apartment within a week’s time (with clearly communicated expectations over email). After everything we experienced, we simply couldn’t trust there would be an apartment waiting for us at the end. I can only assume that their manager doesn’t see their applicants as working people with jobs, but as means of extracting more money out of potential tenants.
