On Sumter Green after 17 Years
I've lived at Sumter Green since 2008 (I wrote this in March of 2022-Updates in 2023 & 2026 at the end) when it was Crystal Village & owned by a different property management company than Kleinman Realty. The pool is nice.
A lot of water stoppages for repairs/maintenance. Sometimes noise from a neighbor, a couple stolen packages. These issues were addressed promptly by the Property Manager.
I liked my first apartment a LOT. However, since Kleinman Realty took it over I have had issues. My... issues are NOT with the staff of Sumter Green. It’s with the ownership company. With all the remodeling they are doing and adding small amenities, they jacked up the rent to a rate I find too expensive
Furthermore, with these remodels they are doing, I specifically was given a terrible choice. Either I could move into another apartment in the complex, find a new apartment somewhere else, or move out for 30 days while they remodeled the apartment I was living in and put all my stuff in storage giant containers and then move back in. I chose to move to a new 2 bedroom. The process was high pressure. I was given very little time to move. I live alone and am single, & work three part-time jobs, so I didn't have any help moving. It was exhausting and until I made "noise" about the process I was given even less time to do it all in than I needed.
After the move, I discovered that this "new" apartment with "new" kitchen equipment was not ready to be moved into. There were issues with the light switches in the hallway not working, there was only one switch in the bathroom that turned on both the light and fan, and the brand new oven was not working properly. My refrigerator/freezer, a brand new appliance that has only been used for about 4 months, was replaced because it blew a fuse. I had to throw everything in my freezer out.
This complex is right next to train tracks and the noise from trains in my apartment is so bad it wakes me up and the vibrations shake my walls.
I worked for the U.S. Census in 2020 and was assigned this complex. Management in the complex itself was helpful, but when I drove to the Kleinman offices to do official Census work, twice, I was treated extremely rudely by the staff
2023: I was apologized to by Kleinman for how I was treated during the Census. They towed a friends car at 3AM
2026: In 2024 my car was broken into. A guy in my building in the floor below me fired shots from his handgun into the floors above me & was kicked out.
