Elevators broken for months at a time. Shabby interior hallways. Broken exercise equipment. Fire alarms in the middle of the night. Amenity lounge closed for months. Loud street noise. Cheap appliances.
Only positives are the nice building manager and maintenance staff. But hardly enough to offset the negatives.

Very loud train sound
Apartments are nice, and so is the leasing manager. But the train sounds are insufferable. It’s from 5 am to 1 am and there are times it goes off every 10 minutes. Didn’t sleep at all on my first night and very disappointed :( Maybe the units on the other side aren’t as bad, but ours is extremely loud. And I feel this should be highlighted for any light sleepers or parents with young kids out there, because this is an impossible sleeping situation :(

Gorgeous apartments, top tier appliances, amazing amenities, perfect location, beyond exceptional building management -- no better place to live!
My fiance and I recently moved to the Gateway South Orange and truly could not be happier with the decision. We have both lived in various apartment buildings (in NY, Hoboken & Long Branch) and nothing compares to The Gateway. From initial interest in the apartments, to signing the lease, moving in and now being a resident has been the most seamless and enjoyable process.
The apartments are absolutely gorgeous with top tier appliances, spacious built in cabinet/closets, hardwood floors with... high ceilings and gorgeous light fixtures. The location of the building could not be better in the middle of such a great town with everything you need all within walking distance (train to NY, restaurants, stores, banks, markets, salons and anything else you could think of!). The building itself is kept spotlessly clean, always smells great, uses digital key system and includes all amenities/services to make life living here that much better -- parking in back, package room, gym, storage units on floor, and amenity lounge/rooftop.
What really sets this place above the rest is how it is managed. The ongoing presence and commitment from Mike is unlike anything we've ever experienced. From Day 1 he has been responsive, accommodating and focused on making sure we are taken care of in every way possible. It is such a breath of fresh air to live in a place managed by someone who truly cares about every residents well being, the upkeep of the building and the quality of living here at the Gateway. There is nowhere else we'd rather be and nowhere else we'd recommend living. If a unit open ups that suits your needs, look no further -- this is the best place to live!
