Ongoing Safety Issues Ignored by Management

I’ve lived at The FiveTwo at Highland for over a year and a half, and I’ve had multiple serious safety concerns that were consistently met with delays, dismissiveness, and a complete lack of urgency from management.

Most recently, I experienced a water leak coming through a ceiling light fixture directly above my shower — a clear electrical hazard. I shut off the breakers myself and contacted emergency maintenance. Hours later, someone arrived and turned the power back on without inspecting the...
fixture, then told me it would be fixed “tomorrow.” When I voiced concern, I was told it “should be fine,” but they refused to provide anything in writing. I later confirmed with an electrician that the circuit should not have been re-energized without proper inspection.

This wasn’t an isolated case:

My storage unit was broken into, and it took days for the lock to be replaced — even after I filed a police report.

A previous plumbing concern that could have led to a pipe burst was met with slow, dismissive action.

Packages are routinely stolen, and car break-ins are a known issue — with little to no proactive response from management.

I’ve kept a full paper trail of these incidents. It’s clear that resident safety and security are not prioritized here. If you're considering moving in, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere — especially if you value basic safety and reliable maintenance.

Property Manager at Fivetwo at Highland responded to this review

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are genuinely sorry to hear about the issues you've faced during your time at The FIVEtwo at Highland. Your concerns, particularly those involving safety and emergency maintenance, are... extremely serious and absolutely should have been addressed with the urgency and care they deserve.

We sincerely apologize for the handling of the water leak incident, and we understand how concerning it must have been, especially when it involved an electrical hazard. Your feedback about the response you received will be reviewed in detail with our maintenance and management teams to ensure that safety protocols are followed correctly and consistently moving forward.

We are also sorry to hear about the break-in to your storage unit and other concerns you've mentioned, including delays in plumbing repairs and package theft. These are issues we never want our residents to experience, and we regret that our response fell short of expectations. While we do have security measures in place, we clearly need to reassess our approach to resident safety and communication.

Please know that your voice matters, and we are taking your feedback seriously. If you're open to it, we'd appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly to discuss these incidents further and how we can make things right.

Thank you again for your feedback and for being a resident with us.

The worst apartment experience I’ve ever had.

I HATE this place.

Rating: 1 star and honestly that’s due to the floor plan which I love. Other than that, I’m living in a constant nightmare.

Living at FiveTwo at Highland has been a deeply frustrating experience. This complex is poorly maintained—dingy and dirty, especially the elevators, which are a constant eyesore. My biggest issue, however, is the unbearable noise from my upstairs neighbors. They are incredibly rude and make excessive noise at all hours of the day and night. It’s gotten...
so bad that I actively avoid being home whenever possible.

The leasing office has been completely unhelpful. Despite multiple complaints, they’ve done nothing to address the issue or make the situation livable. On top of that, the north pool has been closed for the entire year I’ve lived here, and several pieces of gym equipment are broken and remain unrepaired. Getting a package takes an act of congress due to the poor system in place.

This community has been a huge disappointment. If you’re considering living here, I’d strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I’m counting down the days and March can’t come soon enough.

Don't do it

I've lived in this building since 2020 and have been hopeful that they would get it together. Unfortunately, as the property ages, it's getting much worse. The security locks are never secure or not functioning at all. Elevators are often not working properly. A huge and beautiful pool amenity was completely stripped from the residents during the 2024 spring/ summer and now going into the fall. Small but mighty maintenance team is not equipped to handle the level of requests that they are sent.... Overall, the property is not responsive or invested in keeping the residents. Written apologies do not equate to value and what could be an incredible home for Austinites is just not cutting it.

the front office tries by often falls short

Don’t move here if you want a quiet apartment. You can hear everything it’s like living in a fishbowl. You can hear your upstairs neighbor, your next door neighbor, the street traffic, people outside. We are constantly disturbed by our upstairs neighbors and when brought to the front office they did make contact however the noise continues. When we followed up we were just told that’s apartment living and we can always contact the courtesy officer. Well we’ve lived in apartments our entire adult... life and never had these noise issues, and the courtesy officer never answers… which is a safety issue. The parking garage and trash are also always an issue… people speed through the garage with wreakless abandon. The office sent an email blast but doesn’t actually enforce anything. Same with the trash, valet trash but people often leave it out on days they don’t pick up, or don’t follow the instructions… so then it is just left… so there is constantly trash in the halls piling up. Again they sent an email blast but never actually enforce anything. The other issue is the packages, this is not on the front office it’s just a bad system. There is only one package locker system. Because of this it is often full, people don’t pick up their packages or the delivery carriers don’t follow instructions. Packages are left literally everywhere and I have started just calling going to get the mail going on a package hunt… because if you don’t get a code from Luxor… your package could literally be anywhere. Then the maintenance request, we’ve only had a few since moving in… but they often take 1+ months to be addressed. When we follow up with the office they just say oh that should have been addressed we’ll get on this… but then it takes a few more times to follow up with them. Luckily we haven’t had an emergency yet, but maintenance request should be addressed quicker than a month. Other than that the facilities are nice. I’ve noticed the main community center is used for coworkering or students studying. We like the proximity to the train.

if you like to go to the pool to get tan, do not come here!

The main pool has been closed for over a month, and I haven't seen any work being done to fix it before summer. Whenever I check, no one is there working on it. When you ask about it, they assure you they're working on it, but it's clear no one has been working at the pool to fix what the problem is. (ITS BEEN A MONTH NOW YALL) They suggest using the south pool, but it's a tiny pool that's not very enjoyable. It seems likely the main pool won't be fixed until winter. Woohoo, a year without a... pool!
