Urbano at Midtown
These apartments are within walking distance to DART rail and bus, several grocery and convenience stores, and NorthPark shopping mall. The neighborhood is crime-ridden and rat-infested, but the property itself is quiet, the residents are friendly, and there are a few cats that patrol the property to keep the rat population under control.
Maintenance is helpful. Even though there are quite a few maintenance issues, they show up, fix the problem, and then check back with me personally to make... sure I was satisfied with their work. They're also making a lot of repairs and improvements on the property in preparation for some city inspection coming up, but they keep us posted on what we can expect--ie people caulking the cracks in the patios, or turning off the water from 9-5 on a weekday.
I feel confident that myself and my belongings are secure in my apartment, which is saying a lot for this neighborhood. The apartments where I lived before this (just across the street) were broken into and infested with rats, and the apartments I lived in before that (less than a block away) had fights and murders occurring way too often for comfort. There are a few roaches, but that's to be expected in a place like this, and, they aren't overrunning the place. So, if you're looking for a place with cheap rent, family-friendly neighbors, and a private patio for your potted plants--and don't mind drug dealers on the corner or gunshots down the street--then this is the place for you.
