Roaches
Ashtree Apartments have roaches, and have had them the entire year I’ve been here. MSC has said they’re wood roaches and that they’re attracted by light and moisture but they’re still roaches and they’re still in my apartment. I’ve brought it up to maintenance so many times and each time they send pest control to spray my apartment. This doesn’t fix anything as they’re still getting in somewhere, but MSC clearly doesn’t want to spend the money on a permanent solution. They’re in other apartments... , and I’ve even seen them coming into my apartment through the vents, which can be dangerous to people with asthma and other respiratory issues. Overall, I would never recommend to anyone because you will see roaches if you live here, and they can be over an inch long, and MSC doesn’t want to do anything about it. Please don’t live here.

Fine for grad students/young professionals
My sister and I lived here for two years. We both work at UVA, so the location of this place is perfect: the bus stop is just steps away. This is a perfectly acceptable place to live for young people. It's not amazing, but everything worked fine and the price is right for the location. We had a cat and a dog - I really hated the pet rent and pet fees, but at least they allow pets...
My main complaint would be PARKING. There's only one assigned spot per apartment and very few other spots for... residents to park. Street parking is really difficult in this area because there are so many other apartments and a lot of people park there to take the bus to grounds. It didn't matter quite as much because we both took the bus, but people wouldn't want to live here with more than one car and drive a lot.
My other complain would be UTILITIES: There's huge windows in the living area, which let in a lot of pleasant light but are also very poorly sealed/insulated. Our utility costs in the winter were *outrageous*, particularly since it's gas heating. Definitely invest in putting up more insulation of your own in the winter if you do decide to live here.
We lived on the first floor, which was nice in summer, but I'd advise living on the top floor for noise purposes. In general, it's not too loud there - no crazy undergrads making noise at all hours of the night.
I've recently been looking for an apartment and have found myself relying on the reviews of residents so I decided I needed to do my part! Hope this helps.

Perfect, rent is high but not excessively so and is worth it
I love my apartment and MSC is a great leasing company. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of counter space and new appliances including a well designed dish washer (there's actually room for all the dishes where you would expect to be able to put them, which I haven't experienced in some other places I've lived). The washer and drier are very large so not many loads are required.
I only have two main complaints: 1) the wood floor in the... living room does not seem to be well laid and has some dips, and 2) there is carpeting in the bedrooms (the carpets are of nice quality, I just don't like them because carpets are hard to keep clean).
I have not made full use of the MSC facilities (pool, gym, rec room), but they seem to be kept in good order and I see people there all the time.
