Waterton messed things up
I lived here for about a year. I signed my lease when Mill Creek managed the building, and everything was well-maintained and the staff were friendly and communicative. After Waterton took over, it changed.
- Numerous washer/dryer units and at least one elevator were broken constantly
- The staff didn’t provide an email address or phone number for easy contact
- Utility/Conservice bills became steadily more expensive
- They replaced the garage door remote with an automated license plate... reader/ALPR, and the old door keyfobs with a really creepy system that requires you to scan a phone app tied to your identity to enter
- They emailed all the tenants to threaten arrest when some lounge furniture went missing
I should say that the new staff are friendly, but everything began to feel more corporate and removed. Waterton’s based in Chicago, and this appeared to be one of their first Seattle-area properties. And it showed.
This building was built in the 1950s. Some tenants have lived there for decades. When I moved out, my neighbor, who’d lived there for almost a decade and who was talking the place up when I first moved in, had decided not to renew their lease when the time came.
