Everything is fine until you move out

We lived at Meadow Blossom for 4 years. We were very good tenants - always paid rent early, kept our apartment very clean, were quiet and respectful of neighbors, and rarely even called maintenance.

When we scheduled a move-out date the landlord sent us a 10-page packet of items to clean in order to get a full deposit back. It included things like scrubbing the kitchen cabinets, baseboards and trim, and even removing cobwebs from the OUTER brick of the building. The extensive list included...
many things that apartment management typically includes in their own cleaning/turn over process. I've never been asked to do any of these things by any other apartment management.

We did the vast majority of the things on the list and left the apartment cleaner than when we moved in. However, they still charged us $50 for two hours of cleaning. During our walk-through the apartment manager cited items such as dust on top of the guest room door and that the shower needed further cleaning (although I had just spent 2 hours cleaning it).

Every other apartment I've lived in the landlord gave us our full deposit back with only doing a fraction of the cleaning we did at this place. Landlords have a certain cost of business, and that includes turning the apartment over for the next tenant. Meadow Blossom expects you, the former tenant, to turn the apartment over for the next tenant. If your apartment isn't in pristine (or perhaps better than pristine) condition, your security deposit will be docked. I find it completely ridiculous and will NEVER recommend anyone to rent from them for this reason.

Condo feel in an apartment

Apartments are totally clean (even the kitchen cabinets), repainted and carpets steam cleaned when you check in. Maintenance issues, should they occur, are quickly dealt with and fixed. Having a two car garage that allows you to enter the apartment without going outside is a real plus in Wisconsin winter, so is the free snow plowing so that you can leave and return safely in any weather. Nice plantings, groomed lawn and balcony/patio really make this apartment much more of a condo experience.
