Three Ways to Stay Organized During a Move

Three Ways to Stay Organized During a Move

Moving is almost always stressful. You probably know that taking time to stay organized as you move will make things easier in the long run. Don’t get stuck shoving your belongings in boxes, throwing them in the moving truck and leaving all of your unpacked stuff in the middle of your living room for the next two months. Face it; eventually, you’re going to have to organize your stuff. Here are the top three steps our friends at Extra Space Storage have for those about to make the big move.

 Moving boxes 600

Tip One. Start packing early.  If you know you’re going to be moving in the coming months, start packing up everything you know you won’t need. This can include out of seasons clothes and specialty items like china. It’s best to leave the kitchen and bathroom supplies last because of frequent use. Tip Two. Make a list of everything that’s moving with you.  Make a list of everything you pack, and number all of the boxes you fill. On the list of your packed belongings, indicate which box each item is stowed away in. This will help you easily find things when you’re unpacking. Make sure you include fragile items on the list. This way, you’ll know which boxes to be extra careful with. Tip Three. Get rid of excess belongings.   The less you move with, the less stressful your move will be. So, take some time to assess what you don’t need to bring with you. Throw away, give away, or donate what you know you don’t use anymore. If you do everything you can to lighten your load before the move, you’ll find that staying organized and keeping your cool is a lot simpler.
