Twists on Recessed Lights

Twists on Recessed Lights

People are always trying to spruce up their home with neat ways to make their space unique. Whether its wall designs, color pallets, or furniture designed by someone whose name you can’t even pronounce, everybody wants to do something cool with their home. Recessed lights offer two design options I pulled from my experience with the theatre.   Gels For those who have some experience with the theatre, either going to it or participating in it, are probably aware of the fact that productions often have different colored lighting. A blue lighting indicates a cool or sad atmosphere, and yellow/orange indicates happiness and sunshine. This is achieved by putting over the stage lights a thin sheet of colored plastic called a gel. The plastic is designed to withstand the heat of the light and creates a different mood with the color it projects.   Try It! Find some of these theatre gels and use them in your home. It is simple enough to attach a ring to the recessed light leaving just enough space to slide in the gel when you want mood lighting. It’s a fun way to make your lighting reflect atmosphere!     Gobos Gobos are stenciled disks that cover lights in a theatre to project shapes onto the stage and the area around it. There are a plethora of different shapes from lightning bolts to branches to snowflakes. Try It! For a theme party, these sorts of stencils would push it forward that extra step into super amazing. For a Christmas party you can do snowflake gobos, and for Thanksgiving, you could do leaves.
