Still Worth It Despite the Trade-Offs
’ve been living at The Standard for about a month and overall it’s been a mixed experience. The building is modern, clean, and pet-friendly, with great amenities like free access to CoreTen Gym (sauna, showers), discounted coworking at The Mill, and a BPG discount card for local spots like Starbucks and nearby salons. The area is walkable, with good restaurants, Amazon/UPS returns a block away, and it’s a short drive to Trolley Square or a 20–25 min walk to the Riverfront.
Units are sleek, but... have quirks: windows don’t open, the compact ventless dryers don’t work well, and I had no hot water for five days after moving in (though maintenance was responsive). Elevators have broken a few times and fire alarms go off weekly, requiring full evacuations. The building is still under construction and feels mostly empty. Parking is off-site, a few blocks away, and costs around $124/month—more than I was told. Units don’t come with garbage disposals, though I was allowed to install one with conditions.
Even with the growing pains, I’d still choose The Standard over other buildings in the area—it’s one of the nicest in downtown Wilmington, and staff have been kind and helpful. Just go in with realistic expectations.
