They Made the Mistake. I’m Paying the Price!
My experience with Sweetwater Creek has been frustrating, disappointing, and frankly unacceptable.
I toured a unit, expressed interest, and was told by the leasing agent which unit and floor plan to apply for. I followed their direction and applied for the unit, under the assumption that it was the same floor plan I had toured. It wasn’t until the day before move-in, during a final walk-through I requested, that I discovered the unit was not the layout I had been shown.
The leasing agent then... admitted she had done a walk-through of the unit the day before and noticed the discrepancy—but “forgot” to contact me to let me know or offer any alternatives. Had I not requested that final walk-through, I would have arrived on move-in day completely unaware.
At that point, I was given three options: accept the unit, move into a different unit, or cancel and receive a refund. But realistically, I had no choice. My deposit had been paid over two weeks in advance, I had a moving truck and movers scheduled, was moving out of storage, had utilities set up—everything was already in motion. Canceling at the last minute was not a viable option.
I chose to move into a different unit that matched the floor plan I originally toured. That unit turned out to be the model unit, which had never been lived in or rented out at any price—yet they refused to honor the rental rate I had signed for, which influenced my decision. Instead, they charged me the “current market rate”, which was significantly higher, despite the situation being caused by their mistake.
To make matters worse, I was charged a $50 fee because GreyStone Power was unable to transfer the electricity account into my name in time—due to the last-minute unit change happening on a Friday, with the weekend and a holiday Monday preventing the utility switch. This delay was entirely outside of my control and yet I was the one who paid for it.
After raising these concerns, communication from management noticeably declined. I felt dismissed and ignored simply for advocating for myself. There was no accountability, no effort to correct the situation, and no genuine concern for how I was affected.
Sweetwater Creek has made it clear that profit comes before people. I’ll fulfill the remainder of my 15-MONTH LEASE, but I would never recommend this property to anyone.
