Elevated Apartment living at a competitive price

I lived here for two years, and it is tough to imagine a better place to rent at the price. I looked extensively in the Twin Cities Metro for one bedroom/two bedroom rentals and nothing came close to what this one had to offer.

For starters, you will not find many amenities at the price point such as a private garage, in-unit laundry, walk-in closet, patio area, a private bedroom area upstairs, having a half bathroom powder room for the lower level, or vaulted ceilings. I began living here as a...
single guy, but the single bed units were just spacious enough for my girlfriend and cat -- and even with all three of us there we still had plenty of room to host our friends comfortably with the spacious kitchen and living room.

The location is also great. You're a stones throw from 35W, loads of restaurants and shops on 42, walking distance from Lake Earley (that has a great trail around it), and immediately behind the units is a big park/field that's perfect if you have a dog, kid, or like having huge outdoor space.

There were mixed reviews on how easy it is to hear the neighbors through the walls, which was a very important sticking point for me since I'm a musician. Maybe it was because I had an end unit, but I didn't hear my neighbor for the whole 2 years I lived there. It was easier to hear cars outside than to hear them, which is huge brownie points for the experience. Combine the quietness with the solid blinds on each window and it really does feel like a private place.

The units were built in the 80's, so don't expect brand new appliances, however, I had no issue with any of them. They all functioned and did their job for me. I once had my upstairs toilet stop working and maintenance came right away to switch it out for a whole new toilet. So despite it being old, and having a small maintenance team, things get fixed promptly and well. You are in good hands with the Landlord here. I am getting mailed my full security deposit back. This is the first LL after renting for 6 years that has done that for me so that's a breath of fresh air. What other place offers rent discounts for helping out with shoveling snow?

Renting at Southcross Village in general is a big step up from many apartment complexes in the TC metro with very few downsides. I'd recommend it to anyone who is tired of noisy apartments, tired of parking outside, loves to host, and has at least a shred of handiness.
