been here for two years and have had few problems up until move out. I gave proper 60 days notice, did everything that was asked of me. This complex offers flex pay which is an app you can pay your rent through and it reports to credit bureau. I have used this option since it became available which was close to a year ago. I’ve had many issues with this complex not posting payments on the 1st and posting them after the fact however this time... they sent the statement but did not post the rent in the portal until about 7pm on the 1st. I have it on autopay so I wake up and see I was charged for a full month rent instead of what the statement was. The complex at first was putting ALL the blame on flex and tell me that flex had to process the refund and not them. Flex is the middle man here, they just give money to the complex that is posted in the portal. I was having no help from the leasing office (they would not respond to my calls, office doors were locked {due to weather}, only way they would respond was via text message) so I decided to contact corporate who did respond promptly.
Corporate informed me that this was not flex’s fault however the complex should have informed me when I put in my 60 day notice to cancel flex because there was no way for them to adjust my rent to the prorated total which was her explanation on why I got over charged. She stated any credits on my account plus my security deposit will be refunded up to 45 days after move out. This means I’m am out $305.76 due to the complexes failure to inform me to cancel flex. Now I thought this sounded odd they had no way to adjust it when on flex they have to finalize the total each month. I decide to ask flex how that process goes.
Flex informs me that the complex has a way to adjust the amount to the pro rated amount- they just failed to do so. I forward this to the corporate office and she responds back with another excuse as to why I was overcharged.
She states that due to other tenants not turning keys in on time they hold the full months rent until they receive keys. Isn’t that what a deposit is for?
She then says they do offer pro rated rent to tenants but because I didn’t cancel flex (again was NEVER informed of this) that I would be over charged for full months rent.
