Jun 21 Update:
I'd have to start by saying actual on-property team is excellent.
They're responsive, friendly, seem eager to help tenants.
Im beginning to learn their hand are often tied as the crux of most issues at The Ella lay with the getting repair approvals from mgmt team above them at corporate (Avenue5).
PROS:
Gym is nice but needs brighter lighting and more equipment! Rooftop is nice but sofas lack cushions so are pointless, also no protection from rain or hot sun in summer up there.… Units are decent size with balconies. Area is quiet, safe & walkway along river is beautiful. Also, OHSU Tram & train to downtown, etc. very close by. Quiet area also means cafe closed at 3pm & less to do than in more vibrant PDX spots.

CONS:
Not many other than our current AC problem. Our AC hasnt work well since we moved in & now not at all. Originally would take over 3 hours to begin to cool our apt but as of 4 months ago it completely died. We learned they’ve known theres been AC issues for years but getting expense approved by Avenue5 just never happened. So, we consistently complained as we were being baked in our apt and were eventually told, “diagnostics begun, leaks found throughout system along with some electronics issues". If we dare to try to cook or use the washer dryer, it gets even hotter in our apt.
My partner works 85hrs+ per week as a resident doctor at OHSU and must return to "relax"/roast in an 80 degree living room & that's just not ok.

To add, we were approached 2 weeks ago by other residents in the garage warning us there's ppl breaking in & smashing car windows to steal things.

Also, the trash piles up and overflows from the trash chute weekly (we're on the 2nd floor). Perhaps choose a higher floor if you do decide to live here.

So that's where we’re at with The Ella at just over 1 year.

We're also grateful for your feedback about the community… amenities, location, and your apartment. Suggestions like improved gym lighting, additional equipment, and enhancements. We did put the furniture cushions out on the rooftop and courtyard earlier in the spring once the weather started getting nice.

We're very sorry to hear about the ongoing air conditioning issues you've experienced. We understand how frustrating this has been, especially during warmer weather, and we recognize the impact it has had on your daily life. While some repairs require approvals beyond the on-site team, we know that doesn't lessen the inconvenience you've experienced. We appreciate your patience as we work through these challenges and remain committed to advocating for timely solutions.

We also take concerns about security and trash management seriously. Resident feedback is essential in helping us identify areas where we can do better, and we're continuing to work on improvements in both of these areas.

Make your home at Ella

Ella apartments are exceptional in both atmosphere and staff professionalism. I have lived here for quite some time (years) and have consistently been satisfied. The Ella Team goes out of their way to care for tenants. Common areas (i.e. the lounge) are inviting. Frequently, community events are facilitated and create a community culture. Location is definitely a plus, close to so much. Neighborhood parks are beautiful and well-kept. Plenty of adorable dogs (and cats!) exploring outside. I… would highly encourage anyone to check out the Ella flat! Whether your lifestyle is entrepreneurial, a family with kids, young professional, in your golden years--Ella is the place to be.

Pathetic Apartment Complex. Avoid Like Your Life Depends on It!!!!!!!!!!

Would not wish this place on my worst enemy. Lived here for a few excruciating years and since I left my joy has been limitless! The management is awful. Nonchalant. Very slow to respond. Quick to defer blame and do ABSOLUTELY nothing to improve your situation. Multiple issues that could have been prevented with even the minimum effort. But alas, I get the sense they know you likely are busy working hard to afford the insane rent and will not have the time or energy to do anything about their… lackadaisical approach to everything. PLEASE IF YOU ONLY READ ONE SENTENCE: DO NOT LIVE IN ELLA THERE ARE SO MANY MORE BEAUTIFUL APARTMENTS ON SOUTH WATERFRONT THAT DO NOT SUCK ON EVERY LEVEL. I am imagining your life, one where you never have the misfortune to live at Ella. It is a most beautiful life. You're welcome.

Very Pleased Living at the Ella

Kelsey, Jane and Patrick always have time for a hello when they see me. They have been responsive to my questions. Kelsey went out of her way to make sure I had a parking spot in the garage that I felt comfortable with. The few times I needed maintenance, Ric was prompt and courteous. All of the events sponsored by the Ella were fun and delicious - especially the recent waffles. All and all I am very pleased living at the Ella.
