Disappointing
Living at Library Hill was a disappointing experience. While the staff was friendly and there were a few positives—such as the heated parking garage, attractive landscaping, and convenient location near Marquette's campus—I regret signing a lease here. Library Hill withheld a significant portion of our security deposit for what they classified as "damages," despite the charges appearing to be the result of normal wear and tear. They use low-quality materials that don't hold up to everyday use,... and tenants appear to bear the cost when those materials inevitably fail. For example, our unit had extremely flimsy blinds. The slats frequently fell out simply from raising and lowering them during normal daily use. Rather than recognizing this as ordinary wear on cheaply made blinds, management charged us for replacing them. It felt as though tenants were being billed for the consequences of the property's decision to install substandard materials. We also experienced a serious mold issue early in our lease. An air conditioning leak from the unit above allowed water to travel through a locked utility closet into the carpet beneath our bed. Because the leak wasn't visible from our living space, we had no way of detecting it until mold had already developed. The repair appeared to focus only on the visible surface rather than determining whether mold remained beneath the carpet or padding. I experienced health concerns as a result, and several of my personal belongings were damaged by the mold. I informed management, but no effort was made to compensate us for the damaged items or otherwise address the impact beyond the initial cleanup. The condition of the building itself was also subpar. There was an unpleasant odor throughout the common areas—especially on the ground floor. It was strong enough that I often avoided walking through that part of the building. The shared laundry facilities were also consistently dirty. With only two washers and two dryers serving each floor, the machines were frequently unclean and poorly maintained. One of the third-floor washers was almost always out of service due to malfunctioning. It smelled awful and the dirty water often pooled in the drum, leaving tenants with one working washer. I leave this review because I hope management addresses these issues for future tenants, and because I wish I had read an honest review like this before signing my lease. I would not recommend Library Hill.
