Decking Your Apartment for the Holidays

Decking Your Apartment for the Holidays

It is officially December and finally, time to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Yuletide, Festivus—oh yeah, that’s just a made-up holiday from Seinfeld. Oh well, the point is that this time of year all sorts of holidays get celebrated all over the country. Whatever holiday you choose to participate in, there is always a way to decorate your apartment with festive flair! Here are some decorating tips for the season:   Choose a Theme Choosing a particular theme helps to focus your decorating in a more cohesive fashion. For example, you could narrow your decorating style to a simple, winter feel. In this case, you could go for making your home look as cozy as possible with warm colors and soft fabrics. You could also lean towards celebrating the outside changes by throwing some fake snow on your surfaces and hanging snowflakes from the ceiling. Whatever theme you choose, keeping it simple is the best idea!   Go Shopping After choosing a theme and making some basic decorating decisions, the next step is to hit the local craft stores for some more creative influence. Just wandering the aisles will provide inspiration, and you can get most of what you need. For a unique look, a visit to various thrift stores is usually a successful tactic because you can find some real treasures for bargain prices.   It’s Not Just the Sights While visual décor is the most important way to spruce up your apartment for the holiday season, it is not the only way to add ambiance to the place. Playing festive music softly in the background really helps get spirits up and can put you in the holiday mood almost instantly. A scented candle adds a comforting smell to the apartment too, though be careful to buy brands with candles that have smelled both unlit and when lit. Finally, a nice fire in a fireplace sets the entire effect off nicely and is welcoming and comforting!   Whatever your celebration, your apartment can sport festive decorations that are the envy of the whole community.
