Nice complex terrible communication.
I lived at The Highlands for almost two years and overall had a good experience. The area is nice and the community is generally quiet. Like anywhere, there were a few random incidents, but we mostly felt safe. Maintenance was responsive the few times I needed them, usually coming out within 1-2 days. The grounds are well kept, and it was a comfortable place to live.
The main downside was the leasing office and communication. I had to break my lease due to personal life changes, and the process... was very difficult due to inconsistent information. High staff turnover meant almost every employee I spoke with gave different details about timelines and costs. It was also hard to get anyone on the phone, often taking 6-7 calls. Even when I did reach someone, they often didn’t have the information I needed and said someone would call me back, but that follow-up usually never happened.
There were additional charges you can’t opt out of, like valet trash on top of regular trash, and fees like carpet replacement at move-out. Even after leaving, we were still learning details about final payments and security deposit handling. If you’re breaking a lease, confirm numbers multiple times with multiple people to avoid surprises.
Overall, if you don’t need much from the leasing office, The Highlands is a nice and generally quiet place to live, but management communication could definitely improve.
